Take a moment to remember the day that changed us forever

September 11 is a day that has been imprinted on our collective memory. Every adult can remember where they were when the attacks on America happened, and the events of that day have changed our lives forever. As the nation and world mark the 12th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, there are several organizations that provide opportunities for you to join others as they honor those who fell and who served our country by engaging in volunteerism the week of September 11th. There are opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to serve in their communities in remembering those lost and affected by the events of September 11th.

If you are looking for an opportunity to make a difference or commemorate September 11th here are just a few ways our members are doing so this week and beyond:

Companies With a Mission was founded to inspire a greater purpose in business, to change the way we view work and encourages service to the world around us. It was founded in 2011 and provides opportunities that inspire a culture of service and spirituality in the workplace.

9/11 Day of Service was originally created in 2002 to provide a positive and permanent way to forever remember and pay tribute to the victims of September 11th and honor those that rose in service in response to the attacks. In 2009, the United States Congress formally designated September 11th as a National Day of Service and Remembrance under federal law in an effort to encourage individuals and organizations to perform good deeds. Those good deeds have ranged from putting quarters in expired parking meters to donating a money to a local charity! You can even go to their website to pledge to do a good deed in honor of someone important to you.

In an effort to honor and educate, the National September 11 Memorial & Museum offers visitors a refuge to reflect and expansive exhibits that outline the details of how that tragic day unfolded. It also provides an opportunity for people to get involved.

As a way to channel grief into actionable good deeds, Action America enables supporters to get involved with a cause or organization - or many of them. Through the website find a number of organizations affiliated with causes related to the events of September 11th all in one place. Some organizations highlighted by Action America include the Wounded Warrior Project, which helps returning injured soldiers and families; Tuesday's Children, which services families affected by 9/11; and the National September 11 Memorial and Museum. Action America also provides tools for creating and spreading your own message of remembrance.

Let us come together this September 11th to honor, remember and reunite. Tell us, what is your company doing to give back on this day?
